What is the one place in your home that gets the least attention? We don’t have to guess it; we know it’s the laundry room. During renovation and redecorating projects, most homeowners forget to include the laundry room thinking that “it’s just the laundry room” and you can’t do anything to make it nice.

Well, if this is you, you are wrong. In fact, if you try to search for laundry room design ideas on Pinterest you’ll be inspired to give your laundry room that much needed facelift.

Even if the laundry room in your house is small you can still make it functional all you need is a little creativity. Here are a few ideas that will convert your mundane looking laundry room into a room where everyone couldn’t wait to do the laundry!

Add Shelving & Fresh Paint

Front loading washer & dryer

One of the pins we found to be very interesting is a laundry room with a front-loading washer and dryer. An advantage of having front-loading machines is that it will give you enough space to add shelves.

You can purchase shelves that span the entire width of the wall and use it as storage for your laundry essentials like detergents and fabric conditioners or you can decorate it with accent pieces that will fit your theme.

If you’re not a fan of shelving you can use that space and paint it with Laundromat humor or hang framed photos to make your laundry room look warm and entertaining.

To give your laundry room life you can change the paint color according to your predilection. You don’t have to think about the color scheme of the entire house and make sure the color you choose blends with it because laundry rooms are enclosed.

This will give you the liberty to choose whatever color you want. You can paint it with bright yellow, beige, black; heck you can even paint it red! Your choice of paint color won’t matter just as long as the decorative pieces you choose complement your laundry room’s theme.

Function and aesthetics go hand in hand. Organizing your laundry room isn’t enough to transform it, you also need to make it look attractive and painting the walls is one way to do it.

Add Customized Cabinets

Laundry room cabinets
The reason why we suggest customized cabinets is to ensure that all the space in your wall is used up. Usually, when you shop for ready-made cabinets the dimensions will not match the space in your wall. The cabinets are either too narrow or too wide. To make sure that it fits your wall perfectly it’s best if you have it tailor-made to the exact dimensions of your laundry room.

Again, if you wish to add cabinets you have to have front-loading machines. Otherwise, if you stack it on top of each other there won’t be enough space for wide cabinets to fit.

Find The Right Storage

laundry smart storage

Do you know what will give your laundry room personality? It’s your choice of smart storage. Now this can be a little tricky since there are tons of storage designs available in the market. To make it less overwhelming we suggest you come up with a theme.

Once you’ve decided on a theme we suggest you take advantage of Google and try searching for laundry room ideas around that theme. We’re sure you’ll find smart storage samples that are going to look nice and dainty in your laundry room.

The reason why we recommend you to research before going shopping is because sometimes what you have in your mind may not look as good when it’s actually there but when you have visual images to back it up you can already imagine what it’s going to look like.

Hang A Drying Rack

If you have used up all possible space in your small laundry room consider maximizing the ceiling. Yes, you can use your ceiling. You can create a drying rack that is designed to look like a ladder and hang it securely in the ceiling to allow items to dry or to simply hang clothes that you’ve just pressed.

natural light Laundry room

If your laundry room has huge windows, remove the blinds and let the natural light shine through. You don’t need to put curtains or blinds in your laundry room windows. Leave it bare. A small room will look even smaller when it’s dark.

You should also add good lighting. This applies for laundry rooms that don’t have windows. If your laundry room doesn’t have windows you can improve the ambiance by choosing good lighting fixtures. Obviously, stand lamps are out of the question. The lights should be bright enough to light the entire room.

Takeaway

Any room can be renovated if you have the time, effort and materials to make the transformation happen. These functional storage ideas will make you look forward to your next laundry day.
